Candle Making Party
in Brighton & Sussex
Designed for ages 12 - 16.
Let them pour, colour and customise their own candles in our Candle Making Party, a hands-on, creative experience designed for older tweens, teens and young adults. Hosted by Brighton Rock Workshop across Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Eastbourne and surrounding areas of Sussex, this party offers a more grown-up take on creative celebrations.
Each guest will create their own jar candle completely from scratch using our sustainable, plant-based rapeseed & coconut wax. From choosing a scent and colours to pouring and finishing their candle, guests are guided through every step of the process. As an additional activity, each guest will also decorate a ready-made tapered candle, painting and customising it to take home alongside their handmade jar candle.
Candle making is surprisingly scientific, making this party one of our most educational experiences. Guests will learn about different wax types, wick sizes, and candle styles, as well as the importance of temperature throughout the process. Alongside learning a new skill, guests leave with beautifully finished candles, a boost in confidence, and that proud “I made this” feeling that lasts long after the party ends.

💷 Pricing Made Simple
We like to keep our pricing as straightforward as possible.
All of our parties are priced at £210, which covers everything for up to 6 guests (guest of honour plus five additional guests). Extra guests are welcome at £24 per person. Also, if you change your mind and decide you’d prefer one of our other party types, we’re happy to accommodate the change if you give us a minimum of one week’s notice. A non-refundable deposit of £100 will be taken to confirm the booking, with the final balance due any time up to a week before the party. You do not need to know the exact number of guests to book.
We find that a smaller group works best for this type of hands-on activity, and we would generally recommend between 4 and 8 participating guests for the best experience. Many families choose to host the party at home, with us bringing all the materials and running the session for you. We do not charge any mileage if you’re based in Sussex!
If you’d prefer not to host at home or don’t have suitable space, we can make use of one of our regular party venues in Brighton (there will be a £40 fee for the venue hire), or we can travel to a venue of your choosing.
Please note: Party bags are not included in the base price. We offer three options to choose from. Please see below for details.

Candle Making Party FAQ’s
-
No. The time you book is the time the party begins and when all guests are expected to be present. We require approximately 30 minutes before the start time to set up and around 15 minutes afterwards to pack down.
To keep things easy for you, we take all washing up and equipment away with us, making the process quick, simple, and low mess.
-
Adult participation isn’t usually required for the activity itself. We fully lead the session from start to finish. However, we do ask that at least one responsible adult remains on site for the duration of the party for safeguarding reasons. In cases where additional support is needed, we may ask for light involvement. Some parents enjoy getting involved in the process, while others prefer to use the time to relax in another room, it is completely up to you!
-
We can work in a variety of home setups. Ideally, we need either a dining table (chairs are helpful but not essential) or an open area with enough space for guests to move comfortably without feeling cramped or creating a trip hazard. If you have chairs for everyone, that’s great, but the session can also be run standing around a table or kitchen surface.
All of our ingredients are designed to be safe for home use. We bring a protective table covering, however if you have a table with a delicate or natural wood finish, we recommend placing a waterproof table cover underneath as an extra precaution in case of any oil/wax spills. In general, the working area should be easy to wipe clean.
We will also need access to a nearby power socket for our wax kettle. This could be in the kitchen or a dining/extension area with hard, non-carpeted floors.
-
Yes. Lemonade or fruit juice is always available, so guests can choose a simple, non-mocktail option if they prefer. We’re always happy to make sure everyone has something they enjoy.
-
We use a 100% natural rapeseed & coconut candle wax. We also work with high-quality, specially formulated fragrance oils.
Guests can also choose from a range of natural and eco-friendly additions, including biodegradable, non-plastic glitters, dried botanical ingredients, and more.
All ingredients used are non-toxic, vegan and cruelty-free.
-
If you love spa or pamper parties, you’ll love this too. It has the same feel-good, treat-yourself vibe, just with more creativity and interaction. Instead of sitting back and relaxing, guests get stuck into making something beautiful (and usable!) to take home.

Our candle making workshops are fully guided and carefully supervised, with safety at the heart of everything we do. Due to the use of hot wax, this activity is best suited to older children, teens and adults.
We generally recommend candle making parties for ages 12+. However, 11-year-olds are welcome if they have made the transition to high school and/or we feel they are able to remain calm, focused and safety-aware throughout the session. This ensures the experience is enjoyable and safe for everyone involved.
All materials used are safety-certified, and guests are guided step-by-step throughout the process, including clear instruction around handling equipment and working at appropriate temperatures. The structure of the session is designed to be calm, focused and well supported at all times.
In the unlikely event that a guest is not following instructions or behaving in a way that could pose a risk to themselves or others, we may ask the supervising parent or carer to step in and assist. This is very rare, as we are experienced in managing groups and adapting our approach to suit different ages, abilities and energy levels.
-
The hands-on workshop element lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. We also allow for up to a 30-minute break midway through the session, giving you time to serve food, cake, or snacks, or simply to let the guests have a short rest. In many cases, groups choose a shorter break of around 10–15 minutes and then continue, which can bring the overall finish time forward.
All in all, the session can be anything from 2 to 2.5 hours, including the break. We will also need 30 minutes beforehand to set up and 15 minutes to pack away.
-
We are very flexible about when you choose to serve food, snacks, or cake. A popular time is during our mid-session break, which usually takes place around 1 hour and 15 minutes after the workshop begins. This is also when we will clear the table and remove any unnecessary equipment in preparation for the second part of the session.
Alternatively, you are welcome to serve food at the end of the workshop, before we arrive, or after we leave, whatever best suits your plans.
-
Our candle parties are designed for older children and teens aged 12–16 years, with 11-year-olds welcome to join if they have made the transition to high school and/or we feel they are able to remain calm, focused and safety-aware throughout the session. This ensures the experience is enjoyable and safe for everyone involved.
While the parties are tailored to this age range, there is no upper age limit for the activity, and we also run dedicated adult sessions. The most important factor is that guests are able to follow instructions and participate safely.
As this activity involves hot wax and equipment, we ask that younger siblings are not present in the party area during the session.
-
There is no lower guest limit for our parties, and we generally recommend keeping numbers to a maximum of 10 participants to ensure a calm, well-paced and fully supported session. Our standard pricing includes up to 6 participants (including the guest of honour), with an additional fee per extra guest. Extra places can be added up to three days before the party, so you don’t need to decide numbers straight away!
Our candle making parties typically have between 4 and 8 participants, which we find to be an ideal group size for both enjoyment and smooth delivery.
-
Each guest will create one jar candle (approximately 200g) from scratch, personalised with their own choice of scent and colour, and finished in a glass jar to take home. Guests will also decorate and customise a ready-made tapered candle, giving them two finished candles from the session.
All guests also take part in a special, feel-good element designed to celebrate the guest of honour and build confidence. The guest of honour gets to keep the results of this as a keepsake from their party. In addition, where time and group size allow, they may also receive an extra treat to take home.
-
Yes. All candles made during our workshops use expertly formulated set recipes that are designed to be followed carefully and safely. We work with natural, non-toxic ingredients, including rapeseed & coconut wax, alongside high-quality, safety-certified ingredients that are suitable for home candle use.
During the workshop, guests are guided step-by-step through the process to ensure ingredients are used correctly and safely.
As with all candles, finished products should always be used in line with standard candle safety guidelines. This includes never leaving a burning candle unattended, keeping it away from flammable materials, and using it on a heat-resistant surface. We expect both guests and end users to follow these basic safety precautions when using their candles at home.
Once the candles leave the workshop, we cannot take responsibility for misuse or unsafe use, and candles should always be enjoyed responsibly.
